The North-West University hosts the Centre of Excellence in Carbon-based Fuels, comprising the SARChI Research Chair in Biofuels, as well as the SARChi Chair in Clean Coal. The research programs are supported by the National Research Foundation as well as national and international industrial partners.   

Postgraduate studies (Masters, PhD) and positions are available in the fields of:

  • Bio-energy tehcnologies;  and
  • Clean coal technology

South African citizens with the relevant qualifications (HonsBSc, BEng, BScEng for Masters and MSc or MScEng for Doctoral) are invited to apply for the 2019 Master’s and Doctoral programmes.  Candidates with a strong interest in the bio-energy, clean coal or engineering fields are strongly encouraged to apply.  All applications must be accompanied by a complete curriculum vitae, most recent academic record and proof of South African citizenship. Minimum requirements will be strongly adhered to. Bursaries are available for students that meet the academic requirements.
