The Project (poverty reduce)
The Projects, The research entails two small projects which are essential in securing benefits from tourism for local communities and to address poverty., Project 1: The distributional impacts of tourism brought by hosting mega-events, This entails using an innovative and advanced quantitative approach to modelling the legacy effects of mega-events on an African economy. It investigates to what extent the approach of hosting events in order to attract tourists is benefiting communities., Project 2: A pilot study on the impact of money illusion on foreign tourists’ spending on local products. , Using surveys at a local market, this part of the project estimates the size of money illusion for foreign tourists visiting South Africa. It is a key concern for local communities who sell handcrafted items to tourists to earn a living. , Project 3: The effects of emotions on tourists’ perceptions and behavior towards pro-poor products, Employing surveys and lab experiments, it examines the relationship between the ethical intention and tourists’ perceptions and behavior towards pro-poor products, in consideration of the moderating influence of emotions.
