The Energy Research Group (ERG) is a multi-disciplinary research group, situated in the Faculty of Engineering at the North-West University. The ERG conducts cutting edge research and offers research opportunities at Bachelors (final year), Masters, PhD and Postdoctoral levels.

The research done by ERG is always focused on providing ground-breaking solutions.  The group strives to continue pushing boundaries to improve energy efficiency and energy management. The ERG provides unique solutions for problems encountered by industries in the energy sector, on both  national and global level.

Research focus:

Performing energy efficiency, energy management and energy engineering in the following fields of specialisation:

  • Electrical machines
  • Power electronics
  • Control engineering

Within these areas we focus on electric vehicles, micro wind turbine generators, water energy generation and solar powered cooling systems, to name a few.

International partners:

  • University of New Orleans, USA
  • American University of Iraq, Iraq
  • University of Warwick, UK
