Operations Research & Data Analytics Research group
Operations Research (OR) focuses on the creation of mathematical models to represent and solve real-world problems as close to optimal as possible. In this field, we make use of engineering tools like exact and heuristic algorithms (for example the branch-and-bound and genetic algorithms), simulation models and digital twin modelling, as well as data analytics/machine learning modelling using clustering and predictive supervised and unsupervised modelling. We focus on solving practical real-world problems, in areas like image recognition, natural language processing, logistics, finance, simulation and mining and also have a special interest group focusing on OR in health care applications.
